TUI Cruises decides for RESCO SMS shipboard property management system
Salzburg/Sydney, January 2009
TUI Cruises, created in April 2008 as a joint venture between the USA based Royal Caribbean Cruises and TUI, has entered into a contract with Rescompany Systems to supply RESCO SMS, a fully integrated shipboard property management system, onboard of the first TUI Cruises ship. The decision was made because of the “one platform, one database, one system” concept that needs no separate POS.
Werner Englisch, Operations and Guest Services Director of TUI Cruises, explains: “After thorough evaluations we selected RESCO SMS due to its superior technological approach. Because of the open platform for hardware and only one database for POS and PMS we were able to choose what fits best for us, resulting in, amongst other things, a lower cost of ownership. An additional factor leading to this decision was the knowledgeable and committed RESCO team with many years of implementation experience. This will help in every phase of the roll out process and it’s very tight timeline.”
The first TUI Cruises ship will enter service in May 2009. The four star plus ship, currently operated by Celebrity Cruises, will be renovated and subsequently will have space for 1,960 passengers. From May to September, cruises will go to northern Europe and the Baltic Sea. The ship will visit the Mediterranean in autumn and then cruise the Caribbean from November 2009 through to March 2010.
Thomas Pfitzer, Managing Director of Rescompany Systems, is very happy about this new customer because “it shows that acquiring the former Iisii software this summer was the right move.” In addition to the TUI Cruises vessel, another 12 ships are already scheduled for RESCO SMS installation in 2009 bringing the installation base to 50+ ships of all sizes.
The RESCO Ship Management System comes with an integrated point of sale and offers optional modules such as gangway security, excursion sales, cashbook, AVO (cabin maintenance tracking), inventory management, crew management and payroll. The inventory management system is linked to the POS to allow for accurate inventory/usage control along with a state of the art order forecasting tool. RESCO POS utilizes industry standard touch screen technology and provides a true open platform where the preferred hardware can be chosen by the user.
